Matthew Smith, P.A.-CMatthew Smith could be the poster boy for a young adult American. He rowed crew and played lacrosse for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, making him a die hard Cornhusker fan. He earned a bachelors degree in marketing and worked for two years in advertising. Then he decided to change course, match his personal philosophy with his profession and pursue a dream. Matthew believes that "keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude of owning it." So it was only natural to switch careers and work in the health care field. He selected dermatology because he "likes to be able to actually see if my work is successful, like when skin cancer or acne is gone." Matthew left the Midwest, where he grew up, after college to attend graduate school in California and pursue his dream. He received his M.P.A. from Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, CA and then completed his clinical rotations as a physician assistant at hospitals throughout northern California. It's obvious Matthew lives by the saying, "to dream of the person you wish to be is a waste of the person you are." To remain true to this ideal, he stopped wishing and took action to become the Physician Assistant he wanted to be.
